Hi Jetico, thanks for response.

Here is a very simple way to test that.

Actually my computer is fully encrypted ( one physical drive )
My keyboard is a french keyboard ( top letters are AZERTY )
My windows is XP SP2 full update and of course it is a french windows.

1 ) I launch bcfmgr.exe
2 ) I Select my disk 0 with the mouse
3 ) I open menu "Volume -> Manage passwords  -> Change master password"

A window appear with title "Enter Master Password".
Then press Cancel ( yes cancel ) and that all !! the keyboard is in english now !!

If I use the menu "Rescue -> Create ISO ..."  when I type the letter 'A' with my keyboard the letter 'Q' appear in the edit field..

I try this on another computer running wmware virtual machine and  the behaviour is the same.

I don't understand why you cannot reproduce this ?

-Nova.

Dear Nova,

Thank you for writing us about the problem you have encountered.

You are right, by design BCVE switches keyboard to English layout
when the user enters password. It is necessary to provide compatibility
with password strings the user enters in DOS mode at boot time.

Even more - all the time the user enters password, i.e. when input
focus is in password edit box, BCVE checks that English keyboard is
active and turn it on again if it is not so.

But as soon as the user closes the "Enter password" window, BCVE
allows switching keyboard to any other language.

After your report we have tested that again. On our test computer
before entering password we turned off English keyboard. As soon
as we start mounting volume and get "Enter password" window, BCVE
turns on English keyboard.

After entering password and mounting the volume, we run command
"Create ISO image of bootable CD", Windows asked to enter file name
and we were able to switch keyboard to the language other than
English.

We already wrote you that - by design - restarting BCVE is not
required to be able to switch the languages. But as we see, the
problem still arises on your system. Could you please test that
again on your system, and - do other people encounter the same
problem?

Hi all

First thanks for this fine release!
Can we consider that it is a stable version or is it a beta version ?

There is still a little bug. ( already noticed here http://www.smokey-services.eu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=8829 )

I'm French user and use French keyboard.
When you set a new password, the keyboard switch in english mode. But after setting the new password the keyboard remain in english mode. You have to quit and restart bcve to retreive the correct keyboard.

This is a little annoying for example after setting the password it's impossible for me to give a correct filename when I want to save header or create a rescue iso file because in the standar dialog boxes the keyboard remain in english.

Jetico reply this to me:
Quote
As soon as you remove focus from BCVE
password edit box, you will be able to switch keyboard back to
French language.

This is wrong, that doesn't change nothing. The only way to retreive the correct keyboard is to quit and restart bcve.

But this is a so little, little, little bug...

Thx

-Nova.

I just tried copying 30 GB of data and measured the total time.

It is definitely a good idea to reencrypt, though - I am experiencing a bit more than 20% speed increase with AES-XTS over AES-LRW.

Yes, if you wish to take the advantage, you have to re-encrypt volumes.
But it is not necessary - BCVE v2 works with volumes encrypted with version 1.

Question: So to take advantage of the SHA-512 hash algorithm , and the enhanced XTS Encryption Mode in version 2, do we have to decrypt and re-encrypt any volumes created with the older Version 1 of BCVE?
    Thanks in advance  :o
