Hmm still can't get first5kb to produce anything, using vista, any tips?

Have you searched at the directory where first5kb.exe file resides?

This forum format will not allow a .bin file attachment.

Please zip the file and attach.  ;)

Certainly no - the information is encrypted and we do not know your password.
If you wish, you may send us only 512 bytes, using other utility:

http://www.jetico.com/tmp/write_bytes.exe .

The program should be run from command line prompt,  with names of
"destination" and "source" files
and with number of bytes the program must write to the "destination"
 file.

For example, run "Start -> Accessories -> Command Prompt" program and type
 in the following command:

 C:\write_bytes.exe     C:\bytes.bin      C:\archive.bca  512

In this example 512 bytes will be copied from the archive to
the binary file "bytes".
Pleasesend us the file.

Please send us the archive, or upload it anywhere, or copy first 5kb of the archive and save it as a separate file and send it to us.

To copy first 5kb you should use our special utility:
http://www.jetico.com/first5kb.exe
This is command line utility, you should run the program with the filename of the archive as a parameter, for example:

>first5kb.exe C:\archive.bca

In this example the program will  read the first 5 KBytes from the
file "C:\archive.bca" and write them to the "5KBbytes.bin" file (at the
same folder where the utility resides).

We will look at the archive's header.

We apologize for the problem.
We need to reproduce the case on our computers. If we are able to do so, we will fix the bug asap.
Right now we will try to create and edit archives on USB flash drive.

Have I understood right - you had several BCA files on the drive, and they started to have "error 99" problem simultaneously.
What happens before this event?
Did you reinstall BCArchive?
Or did you run some disk utility on the drive (like defragmenting or something else)?
What is the size of data you out into archive?

If anybody can provide us with any details, we would greatly appreciate it.

I have the same problem. Bca files were put on an external USB Maxtor OneTouch Mini. After I created the files, i reopened it to add other files. They worked for a while but then started giving error 99. Fortunately I still had the originals, but gave up on BCArchive and deleted the unopenable bca files except for 1 which i opened tonight and the first line did not contain JeticoEncryptArc. It was some other wingding type symbols. I have been a long time use of BestCrypt with no problems. But I do not trust BC Archive after this experience.

Please read the BCA file with any disk reading utility (Winhex, Disk Investigator, BCView) and send us the screen shot of the first sector. Some programs can save a number of sectors as a separate file. You may send us several first sectors. If the archive is not very large, please send us the whole file or upload it anywhere so we could download the file and look inside.

It is a bca file, is there any way to restore this signature and allow access to the file?
