Google: Our brilliant Spectre fix dodges performance hit, so you should all use it

Google wants the whole industry to adopt its Retpoline fixes for Variant 2 of the Meltdown-Spectre bugs.
That fix, called Retpoline, addresses Variant 2 of the two Spectre CPU attacks called 'branch target injection'.
Variant 2 is considered by Microsoft and Google to be the trickiest speculative execution vulnerability to fix as it's the only one that does cause a significant hit on CPU performance.

When you attempt to uninstall BestCrypt Volume Encryption while some of the volumes are still encrypted, it warns you that in case of uninstallation you will lose access to your encrypted data.

If you still chose to continue, all BCVE components including drivers and boot loader are removed and upon a reboot you are locked out of the system (if system / boot volumes were encrypted).

Uninstalling?
« Reply #1 on: July 20, 2017, 09:05:01 PM »
Hi all,

Just a quick question regarding Bestcrypt. If a user accidentally uninstalls the program Bestcrypt Volume Encryption, would new data stored on the hard drive still be encrypted? So say, for example, that I copy a file from a memory stick onto a laptop - would that individual file be unencrypted if the program is uninstalled?

Thanks,

Tom
