I got a new laptop and after installing Debian Linux on it the BestCrypt works for this 2.6.31.5 kernel. Problem must have been in my previous kernel settings. I did not go back to check the differences.

I just downloaded the new BestCrypt 1.8.1 version from Jetico site. This version compiles without errors with kernel 2.6.31.5. However, it hangs the kernel shortly after the mount command.

Linux kernel 2.6.31.x

I guess I'm a bit a head of the game again ... tried to get the BestCrypt to work with linux 2.6.31.5 kernel. The biggest change between .30 and .31 is that the pid_t is not used anymore struct pid is used instead. I tried to update the mod/bc_dev26.c accordingly. I got it to compile but the kernel crashes shortly after I mount bc-drive. I'll attach my patch just in case someone is interested.

Does somebody have better working patch available? Or, would somebody be able to help me to debug / fix the problem?
