I'm a bit confused as to why an box came up asking you to install an active x component of FF.

Let's take a quick look at things:
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
if you have problems, try this download link:
    OTL
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check
.

.

Now copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: [Select]
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s
/md5start
eventlog.dll
scecli.dll
netlogon.dll
cngaudit.dll
sceclt.dll
ntelogon.dll
logevent.dll
iaStor.sys
nvstor.sys
atapi.sys
IdeChnDr.sys
viasraid.sys
AGP440.sys
vaxscsi.sys
nvatabus.sys
viamraid.sys
nvata.sys
nvgts.sys
iastorv.sys
ViPrt.sys
/md5stop
CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • right click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the blue bar) and choose Paste.

    .
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them with your next reply.

[INACTIVE] Frozen Web Page in Firefox 3.6
« Reply #1 on: January 25, 2010, 07:55:31 AM »
The other day I visited a web page using Firefox 3.6 and a box appeared that asked me if I wanted to install an Active X component. I clicked on cancel, and this box kept reappearing. Not only that but FF froze. I could not click on anything else. I had to kill FF 3.6 using Task Manager in XP.

Are there any programs that exist that allow you to unfreeze your browser in such a circumstance.

I am using NIS 2010, the latest version. However, at this time, the Norton Toolbar 4.5 works with FF but as of yet, not the Intrusion Protection. I thought this would prevent such an occurrence but I do not want to be dependent upon the toolbar and am looking for some other alternative if it exists. I investigated the FF add-on No-Script but found it to be too cumbersome for my taste.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.
