Windows PCs Under Attack in Europe, Systems at Chernobyl Nuclear Plant Infected

Windows computers in Europe are currently under attack due to what seems to be a new form of ransomware similar to WannaCry. Hundreds of businesses and organizations are said to be targeted in this new wave of attacks, with victims including computers at the Chernobyl nuclear plant.

At this point, it’s not entirely clear if this is an updated version of WannaCry or not, but security company originally posted that there’s evidence this is a variant of the Petya ransomware. In a recent update, Kaspersky says it believes this is a new form of malware, with the company revealing that 2,000 computers have been attacked only this afternoon.

Windows PCs in Europe seem to be the most affected by the new virus, and Ukraine appears to be one particular target, which raises questions as to the source of these attacks.
